A couple weeks ago, new images were released for “The Wolverine” depicting Hugh Jackman looking a little…er, grungier than usual. It also hinted that this could be the new synopsis:
In the film, Logan begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.
Wolverine fans balked at the reveal–their ass-kicking, beer-guzzling, cigar-smoking, mutant would be fighting samurais for a girl? Even I was annoyed, and I liked the first Wolverine movie.
Check out the new movie details:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.
The synopsis comes from the official Facebook page for 20th Century Fox’s next Wolverine film. Not terribly informative, but at least there’s no mention of a lovestruck Wolverine mooning over some girl.
Directed by James Mangold and co-starring Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee, The Wolverine is scheduled for release on July 26, 2013.
