HBO Drops New Watchmen Trailer

Even though HBO’s new television adaptation of The Watchmen did not have a presence at SDCC this year, that didn’t stop them from getting some attention. They just dropped a new trailer that shows just how different HBO’s Watchmen will be from everything else we have seen done with the property. You can check out the newest trailer below.

Watching

Like most people, I can say I was pretty skeptical when HBO announced it would be adapting The Watchmen. The critically-acclaimed comic book already had a movie under its belt. While not the greatest comic book movie ever, it served the source material pretty well. Also, it fared pretty well for something people said couldn’t be adapted to film. For me, and other people, it felt like much couldn’t be done with it.

Well, HBO has other plans. This adaptation looks like it takes a completely different direction than the comic book source material; it looks to be like something we have never seen before. Deadline notes:

“HBO has been ramping up its latest sprawling adaptation of a genre epic with Watchmen, published by DC Comics in the 1980s. Set in an alternate history where superheroes are viewed as outlaws, the series is rooted in the same universe as the source material but strikes out in new directions with unfamiliar characters and a different story to tell. It is eyeing a fall debut.”

New Story

It seems like HBO is attempting something like DC’s Before Watchmen series, using the world and its characters to tell a different side of the story. Are you excited about HBO’s Watchmen series? Did you catch anything interesting in the new trailer? Is there anything you would like to see HBO do differently or any stories you would like to see them adapt into the series? Let us know what you think in the comments.
