Nick Zano Joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

A New Member For The Time Traveling Team

This week, it was announced that Nick Zano, formerly of Minority Report on Fox and the CW 90210 reboot, would be joining the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He will be Dr. Nate Heywood, also known as the cybernetically enhanced fighter Citizen Steel. Zano will be one of two new series regulars for Legends, replacing either Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) or Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller, who will be a recurring cast member on Legends as well as The Flash). Last month, series co-creator Marc Guggenheim said “The season finale planted some very significant flags in terms of what the new concept of the show will be in season 2. The team’s mission statement for Season 2 is more compelling than Season 1, and at the same time, it is more streamlined. It’s a little bit higher concept, a very clean notion that will allow the show to do things that it does best.” The season finale for the first season of Legends also set up the Justice Society of America, which Heywood was a part of in the 2000s JSA run.

In the comics, Nate Heywood was an up-and-coming football star who was the grandson of the World War II Commander Steel and the cousin of the hero known as Steel (not to be confused with John Henry Irons’ alter ego). A horrible accident on the field ended up costing him his leg, leaving him in tremendous pain, and at a loss of what to do. An attack by Vandal Savage’s Fourth Reich on a family picnic ended up him absorbing liquid metal and becoming a super strong hero of living steel. He takes his cousin’s codename, but later changed it Citizen Steel to prevent confusion.

Not much is known yet of what role he will play on Legends, but it is possible he will suit up to be the muscle for Rip Hunter’s motley crew of misfits.

The second season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on Thursday, October 13th at 8pm.
