Ninth House Is Getting an Adaptation, Courtesy of Amazon

Amazon Originals Just Added a New Series to Its Roster: Ninth House

Last year Leigh Bardugo made her first foray outside of the world of Young Adult. Her novel, Ninth House, was an immediate hit. So it’s really no surprise to hear that somebody has picked it up for an adaptation, is it?

Leigh Bardugo – Ninth House

Ninth House is a dark fantasy novel, following young Alex Stern as she navigates a world full of ghosts. Too full of ghosts, if you ask her. As it turns out, being able to see the dead is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Her journey through this novel is dramatic and intense, providing a look into a world of secret societies set against a familiar backdrop: Yale. Well, an alternate version of it, at any rate. Naturally, that just means there’s more room for everything to go wrong.

This novel is the first in a series and has rapidly proved to be just as popular (if not more so) than Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse series.

Adaptations Galore

Leigh Bardugo is one lucky author. Or a talented one, depending on how you want to look at it. Her Grishaverse series is currently being adapted by Netflix (Shadow and Bone), and now she’s got another adaptation on the way.

Days after Ninth House released, a bidding war began. Hulu, HBO, Amazon, and others all got involved in the bidding process, all seeking the rights to adapt the series for their own networks. But it was Amazon who ultimately won the rights.

What We Know So Far

Admittedly, the adaptation of Ninth House is still at a very early stage. Meaning that we don’t know a whole lot just yet—but trust us, we’ll be keeping our eyes on things.

There are two big bits of news that all fans will breathe easier knowing. Leigh Bardugo is set to write the adaption, as well as being one of the executive producers of the show. That means that the series will surely be in safe hands! Working alongside Bardugo as an executive producer will be Pouya Shahbazian. They are most famous for their take on the Divergent series and have a history of working with Bardugo.

We’ll send out more updates as we hear them. Until then, feel free to speculate on the casting!
