No More Stan Lee Cameos in X-Men Films
Kinber stated, “We don’t have a cameo. I’d rather say that than then keep it mysterious, out of respect for Stan. We do have some tribute to him, and it’s something that obviously we weren’t thinking about when we were making the movie because he was still very much alive. And he’s been such a huge part of making these films over the years. He’s had cameos; he’s had input into the process of making them.”
Honoring In Films
With this said, I think Kinberg and the people at Fox are going about this situation in the best way. The goal is to honor Stan Lee and they are doing that out of the gate with this statement. A side thought we should all have, especially with emerging technology, is how should we go about honoring those that have past in films?
With films like “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” having the technology available to recreate the likeness of a deceased actor and an aging actress back to their youth, we as a society must start to deal with this new realization of responsibility. There are more Marvel movies with cameos of Stan Lee, that were filmed before his passing. I’m struggling personally on whether or not using those cameos are the best way to honor him. What does Marvel do after those cameos?
I worry about this evolving technology. The norm of bringing an actor’s likeness to life through CGI could lead to more moral ambiguity on how this technology should be used. I know this isn’t the typical manner of how I write about subjects, but this subject hits me hard.
I hope that we, as humans, can honor those we lost in a respectable manner.
