Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke Are Joining Forces to Create a Pan’s Labyrinth Novel
It’s been thirteen years since Pan’s Labyrinth hit theaters, and now we have some more news on the subject. Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke are teaming up to turn the movie into a novel.
Pan’s Labyrinth released back in 2006, and it was an immediate hit among fans. Set in 1944 Spain the movie had both real world and fantasy world elements, creating a disturbing and beautiful world full of horror. The movie follows young Ofelia as she descends into the infamous maze. Ivana Baquero and Doug Jones starred, along with an amazing cast.
Cornelia Funke is best known for her Inkheart trilogy. The series was a bestseller, enchanting children and adults alike. A lot of the themes are similar to what appeared in Pan’s Labyrinth, so Funke’s voice will make an interesting addition to the novel.
It’s not every day that you hear about a movie becoming a novel. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. Yet that’s exactly what we’re dealing with here. The classic and much-loved Guillermo del Toro movie is heading to paper. Thankfully Guillermo del Toro is staying with the project, at least.
Both creators have promised us that the novel will tell the same story as the movie—just with more detail included. They say that it is going to include more information about the world itself, which is sure to please all the curious fans out there.
Pan’s Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun (as the full name of the novel) is due to release on July 2nd, 2019. Along with what is sure to be detailed writing, the novel is going to be fully illustrated.
