Press Release

Potential X-Men TV Show

When you were watching Saturday morning cartoons as a child, did you ever wish that you had a live action version to watch? Well, that childhood wish might be coming true.

X-Men: Days of Future Past” writer-producer Simon Kinberg told Collider that Fox is considering bringing its Marvel universe to the small screen. This could include TV shows on X-Men, Fantastic Four, X-Force, Deadpool and New Mutants. Though, as much as I love Deadpool, I personally don’t see how a Deadpool show would make it past network censors.

With Marvel already delving into television with ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which recently aired “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” tie-in episodes, and with Netflix original adaptations of “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” Fox could stand to benefit from a piece of the Marvel TV pie.

Kinberg said it makes perfect sense for Fox to expand its properties into TV considering the similar episodic format of TV shows and comic books.

“We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be, but when you look at ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with ‘Daredevil’ and other shows on Netflix, it makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV,” Kinberg said. “Because that’s it, every week you come back to the same characters different story, and in comic books every week it’s the same characters, different story.”

He was then asked if ‘X-Men’ would be developed into a show if it was affordable

“And that’s the challenge,” he said. “I think what they’re seeing now is with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that don’t cost $300 million every time you have to make a huge movie.”

The Flash” and “Gotham” are two other comic book properties soon coming to TV.

X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens in theaters on May 23.
