I didn’t know what I was getting into when I took on this preview. This is a wacky, adult comic, full of off-camera BJs, on-camera boob fondlings, implied hardcore spanking with government property, and so on. Also, they say bad words :O
So with all of this going on in a single issue, can you guess what the main characters spend their time doing? Standing in a largely featureless room, talking. I guess I can understand why: this issue is mostly made up of flashbacks and asides and doesn’t have much to do with the characters that are supposed to be the center of attention.
This wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t boring. The writer could be using the asides to show the ninja trio doing several different things, thereby showing us how long the conversation’s taking, or something. The skinny of it is that, entertainment-wise, the (mostly) level-headed Ninjettes are no competition for the craaaazy bad-guys they keep flashing back about.
But maybe I’m being too critical. Then again, even if this is just a dismissable humor comic where the plot shouldn’t be taken so seriously, the main characters are still boring. You know how, in Shakespeare, they’ll bring some new character in to tell you about an epic storm at sea that they can’t show you on the stage, and then you never see that character again? That’s what this issue feels like.
Look at that cover. Really take in the woman in the Oni mask, her covered counterparts, the Yakuza thugs stalking in a warehouse somewhere. That is the most ninja action you’re going to see in this issue. Lots of gun-play, cleavage, and near-porn moments, though, so it’s not a total wash.
