Producers Guild Awards Nominates Black Panther
The nominees for the Producers Guild Awards were announced earlier this month. From the surprise of almost no one, Black Panther has nabbed Kevin Feige a nomination for Outstanding Producer.
The Ryan Coogler-directed film has since become one of the most prolific and financially, as well as critically successful superhero movies in history. This success has not only charted itself as one of the best Marvel movies out there. But it has also been the first to really makes waves during Awards Season.
The film’s nomination was determined by The Producers Guild of America; which recently announced its nominees for television shows, feature films, and animated movies.
Along with Black Panther, the other nominees included BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians, The Favourite, Green Book, A Quiet Place, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Vice. They have all been nominated for the Producers Guild’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award as the top feature film of 2018.
What’s interesting is that some of the overlooked films that did not receive the Zanuck nomination include Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Eighth Grade, First Man, First Reformed, and If Beale Street Could Talk.
In addition, Black Panther‘s nomination in the Producers Guild Awards may prove to be another winner for Marvel Studios. The Producers Guild Awards award has often won the best picture prize at the Oscars.
Notable Producers Guild Awards Nominees
That’s not the only thing that Marvel should be proud of. Spider-Man into The Spider-Verse has netted a nomination as well.
In fact, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Avi Arad, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg) will be facing off with Incredibles 2 (John Walker, Nicole Grindle), Ralph Breaks the Internet (Clark Spencer), The Grinch (Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy), and Isle of Dogs (TBD) for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Black Panther’s Further Domination Outside the Box Office
In addition to its recent Producers Guild Awards nomination, Black Panther currently has three Golden Globe nominations. This includes Best Drama Motion Picture, Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Black Panther is also nominated for eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
“Kevin Feige set for himself one of the most ambitious tasks ever attempted in cinematic storytelling, and then over-delivered on it,” Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher, PGA presidents, shared in a statement. “What Kevin has accomplished with Marvel Studios is one of the great success stories of this generation.
The 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be held on Jan. 19 at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
Black Panther is currently available for home viewing. Upcoming Marvel films include Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, Avengers: Endgame on April 26, 2019, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th, 2019.
