Gal Gadot Cast as Wonder Woman in Man of Steel Sequel

Superman wonder womanIt has been reported, by CBR, that Fast and Furious star, Gal Gadot, had been chosen to portray DC’s most famous and popular female superhero, Wonder Woman, in 2015′s untitled Man of Steel sequel.

Rumors of Wonder Woman’s presence in the film had been swirling for weeks as Jaimie Alexander seemed to be close to landing the role just after the release of Thor: The Dark World, but had since then died down. During that time, Gadot had been named by Variety as one of three potential actresses to be cast for the role. She will be staring beside Henry Cavill, who will be returning to reprise his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck in his inaugural appearance as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

After making her first appearance in 1941, Wonder Woman quickly became a fan-favorite and eventually a strong symbol of female empowerment. Her appearance in this movie will be the character’s first time on the big-screen. Many fans have been very vocal about their desire for their favorite heroine to be given a chance in the cinema, but some may still be irked that she has to share the stage with the only two superheroes that are more popular than her.

It is still unsure as to what kind of a role she will have in this film. Some thought that maybe she would just have a small cameo at the end to set up a solo or future Justice League movie, but this doesn’t seem like an ordinary cameo role. It would be much less surprising to me if she was given a large part in this movie. While I would love to see a solo Wonder Woman movie, I have been very vocal about not introducing her to Batman and Superman with the rest of the Justice League; she deserves better. It would not surprise me in the slightest if this movie is finally named soon, with the name being “Trinity.”

Director Zack Snyder has had his fingerprint on this project front he beginning and seems to know exactly what he want to do regarding the building and expansion of this new universe. In a statement, he said:

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Gadot is a beautiful actress and definitely has the exotic look, which is needed because Wonder Woman is from an island unknown to man’s world, sometimes referred to as ‘Paradise Island’ or ‘Themyscira’. A regimented workout routine is most likely in the works for the actress as Wonder Woman is an Amazon warrior and must stack up physically to her male counterparts in Batman and Superman.

It will be interesting to see what powers they decide to grant their Amazon Princess; the character had recently been given the power of flight, which makes her famous invisible jet rather irrelevant. Personally I wouldn’t mind if they take flight away from her, especially if the old rumor that she may be romantically involved with Batman is true. I’d like to see the two warriors fight on the ground together while Superman takes care of the air patrol.

The best way to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen is to focus on her royalty and her warrior’s heart. A shield and sword are necessary in battle and of course a certain lasso of truth and tiara.

DC’s Trinity will unite in theaters for the first time ever on July 17, 2015.
