Summary

Narrator: Fryda Wolff

Jess’ case may have come to an end in Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3, but she’s not content to simply walk away from this one.

Never Saw It Coming in Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3

Jessica Jones’ latest investigation continues in Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3. What had started out as an open and shut case (and an attempt at self-care) has quickly turned into something infinitely darker and more complicated.

Last we saw, our heroine had found the man—well, boy, really—that she was seeking. While the case ended up being as quick as she had hoped, the turnout was far from her ideal resolution. Perhaps that is why she can’t let it go.

Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire (Serial Box)

Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire is one of three Marvel series currently on Serial Box. Fans can get a new episode each week, which promises a view into the lives of the characters we love so much. Jess’ series is actively updating, as well as Black Widow‘s. So if you’ve ever been interested in seeing more of these lethal ladies, now is the time.

Detective Senses Win Again

Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3 was written by Vita Ayala, an author I absolutely adore. To see them writing a Jessica Jones series is basically a dream come true. So I might be a little bit biased in saying that I adored this episode.

This is a complex episode, with lots of subtitles and threads worth following. It seems like even Jess herself doesn’t quite know why she can’t walk away…and yet there’s something there. The writing perfectly carries this tone, leaving us feeling like the adventure has only just begun.

Given that many would assume the case is closed, that’s an impressive feat. Ayala has written us an episode that is intriguing and intense. There are heavy emotions all over the place, and yet something feels off. Intentionally so.

The sense of mystery is exactly what this series needed. After all, this is Jessica Jones we’re talking about. It wouldn’t be one of her usual cases if it didn’t involve a heavy dose of messing with your mind.

Narration

Once again, Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3 is narrated by Fryda Wolff. As she’s already proven more than capable of providing life to Jess’ tale, it’s refreshing to hear her speak. As mentioned above, this is a complex episode, with a lot of undertones. The complexity carried into the reading itself, making it an episode worth listening to. What’s more impressive is how many voices Wolff was able to lend to the telling. There was a large variety of characters in this mix, and yet they don’t blend together in the least.

Granted, some characters stood out more than others. But even that felt intentional. You could almost hear the effort put into making them stand out. It makes me wonder when we’ll be seeing them again.

Conclusion

Jessica Jones: Playing With Fire Episode 3 is an emotional piece, all while showing how complex this story could become. Already I can see how well Jessica Jones is going to do in this new format. It’s almost like it was made for her.

The intrigue was increased tenfold, which was actually quite cleverly planned. The first three episodes dropped together, and now fans are left waiting a week for the next one. Based on how this one concluded, it’s going to be worth the wait.

On the bright side, there are now two Marvel series actively updating. Fans can get a dose of Black Widow on Tuesdays, and Jessica Jones on Thursdays. What could be more perfect than that?
