Two weeks ago on Powerless, Van (Alan Tudyk), Teddy (Danny Pudi), and Ron (Ron Funches) tried to meet the Dark Knight and somewhat failed (since this isn’t a film in the DC Extended Universe). Meanwhile, Emily (Vanessa Hudgens) learned about the dangers of dating in a city filled to the brim with heroes and villains.
This Week on Powerless:
In this episode, Emily tries to push Teddy into submitting one of his inventions to a Wayne Innovation Contest after intra-office mocking. Meanwhile, Van harangues Ron into helping him appease a girlfriend’s child by putting together models of superhero vehicles.
Both of these plotlines deal with why employees have boundaries in the workplace. Teddy’s boundaries were based on personal issues he had, which he wasn’t comfortable discussing at work. Emily eventually learned, through observation and through Jackie’s comments, that she shouldn’t have pushed him as far as she did. In addition, Teddy learned that just because something doesn’t fit one box, doesn’t mean that it won’t fit a different one. Ron’s boundaries were more professional: Van kept using his authority to force him into doing mundane tasks that weren’t in his job description. Since Van doesn’t really do the whole “life lesson” thing (and is a more antagonistic boss than Emily is), it’s clear that he hasn’t learned the importance of boundaries by the end of the episode, nor has Ron learned how to properly protect his boundaries. Hopefully, that’s an area in which they both improve over the course of the season, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Both of these plotlines were really interesting and worth giving this episode a watch (especially if you’ve been feeling underappreciated at work).
DC Universe Bits and Bobs This Episode:
- The list of cold-related villains at the top of the episode (including Captain Cold and Killer Frost of the CW DC Shows)
- The models of the Superman car and Wonder Woman plane indicate there’s quite a market for superhero merch in Powerless‘ universe as well as our own.
- It was revealed that Charm City and Gotham aren’t in the same time zone (strange because New York City and Baltimore are). It also seems like Charm City isn’t a coastal city based on the time zones, which doesn’t work with Emily’s “I’m from the Midwest” joke at the top of the episode.
In case you were confused at the lack of a new Powerless episode last week, and were concerned that the situation would recur next week, worry no more! A new episode of Powerless is scheduled to air next week too.
Powerless airs on NBC at 8:30pm on Thursday nights.
