Tokka and Rahzar vs Bebop and Rocksteady…Enough Said for TMNT #115
Mutant Town just ain’t big enough when Tokka and Rahzar square off against Bebop and Rocksteady in TMNT #115. The Splinter Clan has their hands full with these giant mutant babies. With their limited intellect and monstrous size, they have the crew scrambling. Maybe if they could FIGURE OUT who “mamma” is, they could possibly calm the creatures down. You know who does not bring a calming presence to the scene? A giant, mutated warthog and rhinoceros with limited intellect (but not because of their age). Yep, with Bebop and Rocksteady showing up, things just got turned up to 11 and the Splinter Clan might just want to run for cover in TMNT #115.
Sophie Campbell lets it rumble in a battle she has been building up the past few issues. She lets the two iconic duos from different TMNT worlds finally clash head to head. It is a ton of fun and something little-kid me has been wanting to see since seeing Secret of the Ooze in theatres. I mean, hasn’t every TMNT fan played this battle out in their head? She does not disappoint in the fight, either.
Campbell does not let the story slip by the wayside, either. We are still dealing with future-Lita and Jennika saving her future self and the rest of the Splinter Clan from that dark future. Campbell takes the last part of TMNT #115 for some deep introspective character looks and adds some interesting dynamics to the story. I am very interested to see what happens when Jennika and Karai come face to face once again. Hopefully, we get to see that in the upcoming issue.
Now, I am not completely sold on this whole “battle of the bands” to save the future, but I also kind of enjoy the silliness of it. I am not sure exactly where she is taking this right now, but I will be interested to see how she wraps all this back up afterward.
Sophie Campbell is an incredible artist and one thing that gets lost in the mix or sometimes, or I forget about, is how violent her fight scenes can be. She has developed a wonderful sense of motion and impact. The fight between Tokkar, Rahzar, Bebop, and Rocksteady lives up to the hype, and it is a great few pages. I was pretty shocked by how vicious the battle was between the groups. I also love all the scratches, scars, torn clothing, and battle wounds she details in the characters. It is a good showing of the battle they have been in and the great attention to little details that makes her art next-level.
Campbell also does a great job of showcasing size and perspective. Tokka and Rahzar are hulking beasts and she does a fantastic job of showing their size and weight on the pages. There is a “heft” to the characters that is wonderfully presented. Love the energy and emotion she continues to display on the characters, as well. Campbell captures the emotions superbly well. Also, there are two wonderfully-constructed panels with characters’ inner thoughts displayed visually. Campbell does a tremendous job capturing those and they are two truly amazing-looking pieces.
All this is increased by Ronda Pattison‘s superb coloring work. TMNT #115 has a bit of a darker tone and feel (it does happen at night, mostly). But Pattison catches the intensity of the issue with a more dire type feeling with the colorations she brings to the pages.
TMNT #115 is a great issue and fulfills all the hype leading up to it. Well, at least I was really excited about Tokka, Rahzar, Bebop, and Rocksteady duking it out. I am just kind of guessing everyone else was as well. Anyway, great issue that also adds some great intrigue to the future-Lita story that has been unfolding. TMNT #115 starts to bring everything together for a bodacious read.
