Netflix Loses Hit Show Rick and Morty in the UK
Rick and Morty is set to air on Channel 4 in the UK in February. The first three seasons begin airing on E4 next month. It marks the first time it appears on broadcast television in the United Kingdom. Previously, the show was only available to stream on Netflix.
How This Happened
Adult Swim wants to bring their content over to the All 4 free streaming service, and moving Rick and Morty off of Netflix is the first step to getting there.
Ian Katz, Channel 4 Director of Programmes, said in a press release: “Rick and Morty is one of the most original shows around and the breakthrough animated hit of recent years. I’m thrilled that it’s coming to Channel 4 and E4.”
Karl Warner, Controller E4, said, “Adult Swim’s amazing mix of original ideas and anarchic comedy is the perfect brand partner in E4’s evolution.”
Also heading to Channel 4 is the UK premiere of Robot Chicken: The Walking Dead Special. This begins the “Adult Swim hour” on E4. Other Adult Swim shows will air there as well. All the shows will be available on All 4 in the UK.
Where To Stream It
UK users will be able to stream over 300 episodes of Adult Swim shows and series when the launch happens. Within a few years, they’ll add hundreds more. It will be a featured channel on All 4, along with VICE and Walter Presents. It’ll be available on all platforms Channel 4 owns and operates on. This includes iOS and Android, Amazon Fire TV, Freeview Play, Samsung TVs, gaming consoles, and All4.com.
Pierre Branco, SVP & GM Northern Europe for Turner, said “We are incredibly excited to be partnering with Channel 4 to bring Adult Swim’s eclectic mix of weirdly wonderful and surreal shows to audiences here in the UK. In this unique collaboration with Channel 4, we are creating a branded destination that will reach fans, new and old, across TV and VOD, building on the huge success of Adult Swim in the US.”
