Rumor: Full Slate of ‘Star Wars’ Films Leaked

This could be huge. On the heels of yesterday’s official announcement of a Han Solo film (to be directed by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller), it appears as though the full slate of Star Wars films has been leaked. Comicbook.com (via Indie Revolver) brought the image below to our attention. It is a series of logos showing six upcoming Star Wars films.

Here is a breakdown of the photo with some commentary as to its validity:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Status: Confirmed

As you all know, The Force Awakens will be released this December. Directed by JJ Abrams, starring John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and the original trilogy cast, the film looks to continue the global phenomenon and is expected to be a box office monster.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

Status: Confirmed

Again, this has been confirmed by Lucasfilm and is scheduled for release in December of 2016. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and has it’s own excellent cast lined up. The film will be a war film, it will follow a group of Rebel soldiers as they seek to steal the Death Star plans.

Star Wars Episode VII

Status: Confirmed

Though the subtitle has not been announced, the film will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper) and is scheduled for release in May 2017.

Star Wars Kenobi: The Balance of the Force

Status: Rumor

There have been rumors for years that one of the Anthology films will be based on Obi-Wan Kenobi. At this point there has not been any official announcement. I am suspect to this “leaked” photo in that it puts this film in between Episode VII and Episode IX, and we now know that date belongs to the Han Solo film (see below).

Star Wars: Episode IX

Status: Confirmed

Though it is a no-brainer that this new trilogy will conclude with Episode IX, it has been announced for a 2019 release date (we can expect May of that year). The current rumor is that Rian Johnson will continue after Episode VIII and direct the final installment as well.

Star Wars Anthology: Fett/Solo

Status: Confirmed (Sort-of)

It is obvious that Lucasfilm have some big plans for their Comic-Con panel this Friday night, and it appears as though many outlets are working their sources for leaks. It was after The Hollywood Reporter reported the news of the Han Solo film that Lucasfilm officially announced it. In the same vein, this picture looks to jump in on the “scoop” action and beat Lucasfilm at their own game. Here is what we know: Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct a film focusing on a young Han Solo becoming a smuggler. There have been rumors of a separate Boba Fett spin-off, this picture is the first rumor pitting the two in the same film.

Overall Thoughts: Take this picture with a grain of salt. four of the six films have already been announced and the other two are heavily rumored, so there isn’t anything too groundbreaking. I do expect Lucasfilm to announce something like this on their Comic-Con panel this Friday (7/10/15). Even if some of these movies don’t come to fruition as they seem here, it doesn’t take away from the fact that it is a good time to be a Star Wars fan!
