Russo Brothers Tight-Lipped on Avengers 4
After an extensive Q&A hosted by Collider, the Russo brothers, directors of the upcoming Avengers 4, made sure to avoid any spoilers for their latest film. Although they did manage to share their secretive methods with fans, which likely raised more questions and theories on the film, slated for release next year.
The Russo brothers are certainly the more tight-lipped figureheads in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; they believe that the less they reveal on Avengers 4, the better. Their tight-lipped attitude on Avengers 4 is to ease the stress on the cast; they feel spoilers tend to put more expectations on an actor’s character.
“It is very difficult when your job is to sort of personalize these stories, personalize these characters, and sort of bring all your creative, collaborative energy to a process that lasts many, many months—sometimes more than a year—it’s a big part of your life,” Anthony Russo said during the Collider-hosted Q&A.
Mark Ruffalo is Still ‘Fired’ From Avengers 4
One of the more rebellious cast members when it comes to spoilers is Mark Ruffalo. The Hulk himself is no stranger to revealing too much info; he was “fired” on Twitter by the Russo brothers in October. Ruffalo appeared on The Tonight Show that month and posted some Avengers 4 material that was considered big spoilers.
To keep the gag going, Joe would confirm Ruffalo is still fired. Here’s the tweet on the “firing” below!
Mark, you’re fired.

Cast Still in the Dark
Another interesting thing to note about the Russo brothers is how far they kept their actors in the dark for Infinity War, as there were a number of fake scripts and different drafts used!
In fact, the Russo brothers explained how almost none of the actors on the set of Infinity War actually had the entire script in their hands. Individuals who were in the film more than others had access to their scenes and knew more than other people in the cast. As a result, the entire script ended up remaining a bit of a mystery to many.
Not to mention there were also fake scenes and redacted scenes to protect the secrecy of the movie for the entire production. One of these fake scenes involved Gamora (spoiler warning for Infinity War) throwing Thanos off the cliff in the Soul Stone sequence instead of the other way around.
There were also ultimately three different drafts of Infinity War, according to the Russo brothers. One draft had Thanos as the narrator of the film. This script included backstories for the Black Order and ran about 250 pages.
Another draft of the script opened, in which Thanos had already secured the Power Stone. However, it felt like the Mad Titan had too many Infinity Stones to start. This is where it was instead decided to open with the attack on the ship, in the middle of his plan.
Avengers 4 Trailer: Still Under Wraps?
Of all the things most fans were looking forward to, it was whether an Avengers 4 trailer would be revealed. Unfortunately, this was another Avengers 4-related detail that was neither mentioned nor discussed by the directors.
As the year nearly ends, one would think that some indication of a trailer would have already been made available. But this is something that will hopefully surface near the end of the year. Or at least before the release of Captain Marvel, but time will only tell!
Captain Marvel opens March 8, followed by Avengers 4 May 3 and Spider-Man: Far From Home July 5, 2019.
