Samurai Jack is making his way back to television after a 13 year hiatus. The show’s fifth season will air on Adult Swim, beginning March 11th, 2017, Cartoon Brew reports.
Samurai Jack’s Long Awaited Return
We last left our hero trapped in a distant future ruled by his arch-nemesis, Aku. The series ran four seasons and seemingly came to an end with the downbeat season four finale. Of course, the lack of closure for Jack’s story didn’t sit well with fans. So, they did what all the best fans do. They waited. The show’s creator, Genndy Tartakovsky went on to direct the wildly successful Hotel Transylvania films. But in December of 2015, Adult Swim answered fan’s wishes when they announced Tartakovsky’s revival of Samurai Jack for a 10-episode fifth season in 2016.
2016 saw the release of cool behind the scenes art and video. However, the year passed with no news about Jack’s return. So during a recent block of Adult Swim shows, the network took to answering questions from their social media pages. One of the questions inquired about what was going on with the return of everyone’s favorite time locked samurai. Adult Swim responded with a very clear answer:
“March 11th, 11:30 p.m. is what’s going on.”
Understandably, Adult Swim became inundated with follow-up questions asking if they were being serious. To that, they simply responded:
“What did we just say?”
Adult Swim is known for trolling their viewers, but this is legitimate news. So there you have it, Samurai Jack is returning for a long awaited fifth season. While very few details have emerged, we do know that Phil LaMaar will be reprising the role of Jack. We also know that the fifth season will take place some years after the fourth season’s finale.
