Young and the Restless Actress Sasha Calle Cast as DC’s New Supergirl
Sasha Calle, a Daytime Emmy nominee for her role in The Young and the Restless, made history on Friday. She is Colombian, so she is to be the first Latina Supergirl in DC history. Calle won the role over more than 400 other actresses who auditioned. She will star alongside Ezra Miller for the upcoming The Flash film.
The Supergirl Casting Process
Andy Muschietti, the director of The Flash, viewed all the audition tapes, but Calle blew him away. Along with the producers and DC Films boss Walter Hamada. Evidently, she brought a perfect balance of toughness and vulnerability to the role.

Muschietti said, “I saw more than four hundred auditions. The talent pool was truly amazing, and it was tough to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”
Apparently, the actresses did not know the exact role they were reading for until late in the game. Many of them – including Calle – did a chemistry test with Miller, the star of the film. And of course, because of the pandemic, these were all conducted over Zoom. Calle will head to the set when it is safe to do so.
It sort of calls back to the casting of Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. Gadot was only really known for her role in Fast & Furious 6, but it was Wonder Woman that thrust her into the spotlight. Hopefully, Calle will have similar luck.
Who is Sasha Calle?
Calle was born in Boston but spent a few years in Colombia before returning to the US. In 2018, she got the part of Lola Rosales in the soap opera The Young and the Restless, which earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series. She also starred in Socially Awkward, a YouTube miniseries. So this is to be her first film role.
The film is looking at a November 2022 release date.
