Godzilla Rises and Brings Friends

Warner Bros. debuted the first full-length trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters during their Comic-Con 2018 panel. The film is the follow-up to 2014’s Godzilla and paves the way for King Kong and Godzilla, due out in 2020.

The Titans Will Rise

Earlier this week, Millie Bobby Brown debuted the first footage for Godzilla: King of the Monsters on her Instagram. The footage didn’t show off any monsters, but found the actress in a distressed state, attempting to contact Monarch. Monarch, for those of you not in the know, is the name of the shadowy government organization dedicated to researching massive monsters across the world. However, during the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con, the studio debuted the first full length trailer for the movie, and it features so. Many. Monsters. Peep it below!

The Monster Mash

Okay, so is every trailer out of Comic-Con killing it so far or what? The trailer for Glass is outstanding, and this one is downright beautiful.

King of the Monsters is Michael Dougherty’s third movie. His first two are the outstanding Trick’R’Treat and the underrated Christmas horror movie Krampus. Both of those films are a well-executed blast, and Krampus features real heart in the family at the center of the crisis. This film doubles down on Dougherty’s excellent character work, and his love for these monsters is all over the place.

While 2014’s Godzilla received mixed reviews due to a lack of the big lizard himself (he only appears for about 14 minutes), and boring human characters, King of the Monsters looks like it alleviates all those fears. The trailer features Vera Farmiga’s character doing her best Thanos impression and arguing humanity is an “infection” on planet Earth. Her solution? Unleash the titans to wipe out most of humanity and start over. It’s a great hook, and the way Dougherty’s camera lovingly films these creatures. The operatic tone of the piece works like gangbusters, and this movie just skyrocketed to the top of my must-see list of next year. Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters May 31st, 2019.
