Another SESAME STREET Movie???
This isn’t the first time Sesame Street has a movie made out of it. This may not be the last either.
A Brief History of Sesame Street
Sesame Street started on November 10, 1969. For 49 years, the pre-school show educated generations of people. Its first home is in PBS before it moved to HBO in 2015. The series is a brainchild of Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett. This is to cater to pre-school viewers. At the moment, the ending theme is “Smarter, Stronger and Kinder”. A big change after 45 years of “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street”.
There are a lot of Sesame Street movies. There’s Elmopalooza, Sesame Street: Ready for School, Street Jam, The Cookie Thief. Sesame Street movies started in 1977 and are going on, well, until today. Chances are you don’t know much about them because most of it are not big hits! It’s a perfect series but as a movie? It is quite a challenge, something Warner Bros is undertaking. With reinforcements.
Feature Film meets Portlandia Director
Portlandia is no doubt an epic comedy series. The Portlandia effect alone is a testament to how amazing the show is with its legendary sketches that will forever live on in our hearts. One of its masterminds is Jonathan Krisel. Krisel is a director and co-creator for the series and will now be the helmsman for the Sesame Street Movie.
There is no word of plot or any other detail from Warner Bros as to what the movie will be about. The feature film script is under revision. Writer Chris Galetta is polishing it, although the original version is written by Mike Rosolio.
Thoughts on the Project
As a fan of the series, except when my favorite song was removed, it is interesting to see how it goes. After all, this show’s been going on for 49 years. Changes are bound to happen. Krisel’s handling of the project is something to look forward to. Will we witness Portlandia vibes in the movie?
Only hoping for the beloved series’ movie project to be a success.
