Sesame Street SPOILS Game of Thrones!

Did Sesame Street just SPOIL Game of Thrones?

Warning: the conclusion of Game of Thrones has been leaked—on Sesame Street? That’s right, Sesame Street. You may not have heard about it, you may not have seen it, but thanks to the shared HBO Network of, arguably, the two most culturally impactful shows of all time, it happened.

In this short clip, Cersei and Tyrion Lannister are learning about R-E-S-P-E-C-T and finding out what it means to Elmo. “When Elmo has a problem with his friends like Abbey or Cookie Monster, Elmo doesn’t get upset. Elmo listens and learns from what they have to say!” Awakened by the reason of his words, and perhaps still in shock from learning that there is such a thing as a “Cookie Monster”, Tyrion offers a truce to Cersei which she, in turn, accepts.

“Sunny days chasing the clouds away…”

It’s an admittedly cute clip, as well as one of the more unexpected crossover events audiences have seen in recent years. Apparently done in commemoration for 50 years of Sesame Street on television, there does also seem to be an underlying effort to target a whole new batch of up-and-coming ‘wildlings’ and gently introduce them to the world of Westeros.  But could this clip be something more? What if this is, in fact, an Easter egg of how things will look to unfold?

Examining things beneath the surface, Cersei and Tyrion are still sitting across the table from one another. This represents the current state of affairs or the division in Westeros between its most prominent houses. A truce is made between them only when a “Red Knight” sits in the King’s Chair and ushers the peace. So who could this possibly be?

Stannis Baratheon? Unlikely. Lord Beric Dondarrion? Even less likely. Red is the color for House Targaryen; it can only be Danaerys or Jon. As we learned at the conclusion of Season 7, Jon is actually the true-born son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. His real name is Aegon Targaryen, VI of His Name. After how the events of episode one unfolded—could it be true? Will Jon ascend to take his rightful place upon the Iron Throne? Will he bring peace back to Westeros? Elmo thinks so. Elmo loves you.
