G.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes Heads To The Big Screen Alone

Snake Eyes Re-Enters The Battle

Evan Spiliotopoulos is bringing G.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes back to the big screen. Paramount is rebooting the series of films alongside their M.A.S.K. film to generate a shared universe across five Hasbro properties. They are co-producing the films with Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro

Paramount Rolls Snake Eyes

Snake EyesShared universes are all the rage these days. However, only Marvel tapped into the special formula that makes them thrive. Since the inception of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), several shared universes have come and gone. Among those is the Hasbro’s shared universe. In 2015, the toy company announced a partnership with Paramount to bring five of their properties into a shared universe. The properties are M.A.S.K., G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, and ROM: SpaceKnight. Since then, news about the Hasbro universe remained quiet. In 2017, people thought Transformers: The Last Knight referred to ROM, but that theory proved incorrect.

But, earlier this year, Paramount announced F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious, The Italian Job) is directing the big screen adaptation of M.A.S.K. And, earlier this week, the studio announced Beauty and the Beast screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos is bringing a solo Snake Eyes adventure to the big screen. Both films are part of the Hasbro shared universe.

Hasbro Logo & Paramount LogoArguably, this is the riskiest cinematic universe to date. Sure, Marvel put it all on the line with the MCU, but at least most people were familiar with Marvel comics. These days, you are hard-pressed to find die-hard ROM: SpaceKnight or Micronauts fans. Most people look back on them with a cheeky nostalgia of the bonkers toys they had as kids. But, if Hasbro plays their cards right, they can re-introduce these characters to a new generation and make boatloads of money. Besides, F. Gary Gray and Evan Spiliotopoulos are no strangers to Hollywood. So, here’s hoping Hasbro and Paramount learned the right lessons from the MCU and the bevy of failed shared universes and bolster M.A.S.K. and Snake Eyes with the right blend of heart, action, and memorable characters.
