In anticipation of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Zack Snyder releases a mash-up trailer of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars.
Zack Snyder: Creator and Cheerleader
Embracing his inner fanboy, director Zack Snyder took to the internet to release a trailer for his 2016 film, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, the trailer features one major change: it is full of nods to the Star Wars movies. Of course, this is not the first time Snyder’s love of Star Wars has surfaced on the internet. During the release of The Force Awakens, the director found himself trading tweets with JJ Abrams’s Bad Robot, featuring mash-up images of their iconic characters. So in a way, this is Snyder’s way of keeping the tradition alive. The trailer features iconography from across the Star Wars universe, including the prequels. Check out the mash-up trailer below!
The film industry is a highly competitive place. And in an era where competition for a viewing audience is at a fever pitch, it’s nice to see artists reaching across the aisle and getting excited about another artist’s work. Also, it’s fun to see Snyder put his editing chops to use outside of his usual blockbuster films. The guy has his fair share of detractors, but the truth is, he has put together some stunning montages over his career. The opening credits to Watchmen is an all-timer. Even in the midst of hate for Batman v. Superman’s theatrical cut, most people point to the montage of Superman saving people and questioning his place in the cosmos as the best sequence in the film. To be sure, the above trailer is a little silly. However, it’s also a nice gesture from a creator and fan.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens December 16th.
Justice League: Part One opens November 17th, 2017.
