Star Trek Discovery Season 2 Expectations
Star Trek Discovery Season 2 released the latest trailer earlier this month, as well as adding hype with a recent BTS trailer that goes to expand on what fans should expect from this season. After Discovery was renewed for a season 2 last year, Trekkies are hungry for what comes next!
Let’s take a look at what to expect on the space journey that left us wanting more from season 1, and how everything might play out based on what we know so far.
Discovery Season 2 Trailer: What You Need to Know
We’ve got a new, full-length trailer for Season 2 that has tons of goodies in there. Expect the trailer to provide plenty of those goodies for both long-time fans and fans of this show specifically.
From the opening voice-over, Spock seems to plead with his half-sister to help him find these mysterious entities. This is likely to be the overarching conflict of the season. Moving on, the trailer also sheds light on where Lt. Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif) had been. Tyler likely was off fighting with L’Rell (Mary Chieffo) and likely with the newly minted Section 31 member Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh).
The new Discovery season 2 trailer also spends a lot of time reuniting a few notable characters. This includes bringing Burnham, Spock, Georgiou, and Tyler all back in several scenes.
One thing kept out of the new trailer (likely to be further explored) was how once-dead Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) may come back!
Not to mention that the trailer shows a glimpse Tig Notaro’s new character, which looks to be a huge baddie that looks suspiciously like a Demogorgon.
A few more glimpses upon further examination of the trailer also included the following:
- Confirmation that Section 31 is the worst kept secret!
- The appearance of the Vulcan nerve pinch!
- References to Alice in Wonderland on Discovery season 2 via the ‘Red Angel.’
Discovery Season 2 Behind the Scenes
A behind-the-scenes trailer offers further details on what to expect from Discovery season 2.
Featuring interviews with the executive producers and cast members, here are a few snippets of information to know!
Discovery season 2 will open with the Discovery meeting up with the USS Enterprise, the latter being helmed by Anson Mount’s young Captain Christopher Pike. Pike, under the command of Starfleet, must take command of the Discovery.
“Speaking as a fan, we’ve always wanted to know more about Pike,” said Mount. “It’s such a mysterious history.”
As detailed from the latest Discovery Season 2 trailer, the show is set to revolve around the “Seven Signals” and “The Red Angel,” which might spell doom for life in the galaxy. Ethan Peck’s Spock is connected to the Signals, and he realizes the danger they may pose.
“We have made lots and lots of choices in Season 2 to shift to a much more cinematic look,” says creator/EP Alex Kurtzman in the teaser above. This is highlighted by how well orchestrated the special and practical effects are looking to be, as the production value only seems to be improving for this latest adventure!
Season 1 is currently available to stream on CBS All Access (US), CraveTV (Canada) and on Netflix in other countries for those looking to catch up before the release of Star Trek: Discovery season 2, which premieres on CBS All Access Jan. 17.
