Stargate Origins Announces Cast At NYCC
The Stargate franchise is gearing back into action. The long-running franchise announced the casting of the latest installment last weekend at New York Comic Con. Production has officially begun on Stargate Origins, and leading the cast is Ellie Gall as Catherine Langford. Longtime fans of the franchise will perk up at the mention of that name. In the storyline, Catherine’s father discovered the series’ namesake gate in 1928 Giza. Decades later, Catherine recruited Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader in the original film, Michael Shanks on TV) to unlock it. In a statement, Gall said “The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime. I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.”
Brand New Cast And Adventure
Alongside Gall is Stargate Atlantis veteran Connor Trinneer as Professor Langford, Catherine’s father. Rounding out the cast is Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry, and Lincoln Werner Hoppe. No details on their roles are available at this time. The series is being written by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry. Mercedes Bryce Morgan leads this new adventure as director.
The ten-episode series will serve as a prequel and possible reboot/retcon for the franchise. MGM, the studio that owns the franchise, stated that the show will follow Catherine as she “embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness.”
The show will not, however, air on television. It will be on a new streaming service, Stargate Command. It will host this new series as well as the former series. The service has launched, with a yearly fee of $20, but with some glitches. No premiere date has been set for the series.
