Suicide Squad Looks Like Good, Geeky Fun

If San Diego Comic Con were to be described as a four star restaurant, then this trailer is the exquisite dessert everyone looks forward to.  As soon as its served, it’s quickly devoured and instantly shared on social media.  The movie trailer is a very powerful tool, and in this case, Suicide Squad delivers.  I’ve watched the trailer a dozen times already.

Before getting into the railer, I just wanna say that I picked up the New 52 version of the Suicide Comic in 2011.   The premise, a team of super villains under the US Government, directed by Amanda Waller, are sent on missions to battle the “greater evil”in exchange for shorter sentences.  Great concept!  While doing some research, I found that the Suicide Squad, or at least, different versions of it, has been in existence since the Silver Age.  This may explain why many villains always escaped or were found free.

Onto the trailer.  It was amazing!  The sounds effects and music gave the feeling of  a twisted circus.  The trailer, in essence, was a short nightmare on screen.  We get sporadic images of past and present: Guns blazing, Arkham Asylum, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, and as always, beginning with Amanda Waller pulling the strings.  Our team: Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie looks and sounds incredible,) Dead Shot, Killer Croc, Katana, to name a few standouts.  And it all ends with the Joker.  We get Leto’s take on the Joker’s laugh, followed by, “I’m not gonna kill you.  I’m just gonna hurt you.  Really…really… bad!”  Chills! I was waiting for him the whole time, and they saved him for last!

Before this was shown at SDCC, then leaked, then released worldwide, many geeks were a bit worried about Jared Leto’s Joker.  Many were up in arms at the first released picture a few months ago.   There were mixed reactions, as well as comparisons between on-screen Jokers. (Ledger, Nicholson, Mark Hamil.) Well, with the way this thing is looking, I think we are all going to love it!  Leto, looks like he’s having a good time (maybe too good of a time) playing the Joker!  He’s downright creepy! A year is way too long to wait!

Suicide Squad opens August 2016.
