Supergirl announced the casting of their latest villain, Siobhan Smythe, a.k.a. Silver Banshee. In DC lore, Smythe was turned her into a banshee with the ability to use hypersonic screams, allowing her to violently deal with her enemies, after she was dragged into the netherworld and granted powers by a creature called the Crone. Siobhan Smythe will make her debut in the 14th episode of the season, which airs in January 2016. She is a newly hired employee of Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), the CEO of CatCo Worldwide Media. Smythe will be a work nemesis for Kara (Melissa Benoist) that will later turn into a potentially deadly foe for Supergirl later on when she tis revealed as Silver Banshee.
Canadian actress Italia Ricci, best known for playing April Carver in the ABC Family series Chasing Life, will play Silver Banshee on season 1 of the CBS series. Ricci is also known for her roles as Maggie Winnock in the Cartoon Network live-action series Unnatural History, Sasha in the Comedy Central series Secret Girlfriend, and Laura Johnson in the movie American Pie Presents Beta House (2007).
Supergirl’s Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg expressed his excitement in the announcement that welcomed Ricci to Supergirl:
“We are so excited to be working with Italia,” Kreisberg said in a statement. “We’ve been a fan of her work for years and cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role.”
Ricci has connections with another popular DC comic character, as she started dating Canadian actor Robbie Amell in July 2008. The couple announced their engagement on August 19, 2014. After the news broke, Robbie congratulated Italia on his Twitter:
“So badass!!!! Congratulations @italiaricci I always knew you were a super villain.”
