Superheroes are people too.
On top of having to fight villains, keep their headquarters hidden, and dealing with all kinds of catastrophes, they also get to deal with regular problems like hooking up with your ex or having your old roommate crash on your couch for a lot longer than necessary.
Created by Andy Goldenberg in conjunction with Youtube Space LA and Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, Superguy and Friends takes a look at the funny side of the superhero life in five brief parts of a TV pilot that will make the most serious superhero fan crack up.
Raunchy and relatively irreverent, Superguy and Friends‘ cast of characters are not the ones that you’d find in your typical superhero series. The five-episode limited series revolves around our titular character Superguy (Anton Narinskiy) and the pitfalls he faces when his ex-girlfriend Wonderchick (Lauren Francesca) flies back into his life. With side characters like Superguy’s roommate Barry (played by Goldenberg himself), Superguy’s snarky best friend Alanna (Natalia Ferreiro), and the not-so-scary Scary Man (Eric Dunn), the series has a lot going for it.
Part of YouTube Spaces’ “World of Superheroes” program, Superguy and Friends is one of the best offerings to come out of the original production program. And no, that’s not hyperbole. You can see the quality of Goldberg’s creation and the thought that went into making the series in every video. The characters are funny and the plot is sitcom-y without being trite, and the entire series has very high production values.
That’s why Superguy and Friends is one of several superhero series that will be screened at the “YouTube Spaces Presents A World of Superheroes” panel at this year’s Comikazi Expo in Los Angeles. The videos that will be shown at this panel are simply the best of the best when it comes to original superhero programming on YouTube – as are the creators that are participating.
If you’re a superhero fan, go watch out Superguy and Friends on Youtube. If you’re also going to be at this year’s Comikaze, go show some support to Andy Goldenberg and other high profile creators like Anna Akana, RobotUnderdog2, and Cinema de Guerrilha at the “YouTube Spaces Presents A World of Superheroes” panel on Saturday, October 31st in Room 515B.
