The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Is Getting a Movie

The Hunger Games Prequel Is Already Set to Get a Movie

This may come as a surprise to some, since The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes hasn’t officially released yet, but the Hunger Games prequel is getting a movie. Yes, you read that right. There is going to be at least one more movie set in the world of Panem.

Suzanne Collins – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is Suzanne Collins‘ latest novel. It has already been getting a lot of ink, despite not yet being released (it is due out on May 19th). The main focus, as hard as this might be to believe, is President Coriolanus Snow.

Or rather, it is about Coriolanus Snow, before he became the president of Panem. It’s a prequel in the truest sense, showing us the world before Katniss had even been born. The districts still exist, and young Snow is the mentor of one of the tributes from District 12. Sound familiar? It should. The biggest (and most striking) difference will be the perspective. This is what has gotten many fans into a tizzy, with concern about Snow potentially becoming a sympathetic character. Only time will show what Collins is planning on showing us in her latest novel.

Adaptation News

Lionsgate, the studio responsible for bringing us the original Hunger Games movies, has already put this latest adaptation in the works. In a way, it’s a relief to know that they will once again be at the helm of the project.

On the other hand, it’s an interesting move, since fans currently have no idea what to expect from the book or movie. There’s no doubt that they’re taking advantage of all the attention the book has been getting.

Because the announcement is pretty new, we only know so much about the movie. Currently, we know that Francis Lawrence will be the director. That’s an important note, for their work on the previous Hunger Games movies.

Nina Jacobsen and Brad Simpson will both be on board as producers. Finally, Michael Arndt has already been pulled in to write the screenplay adaptation of Collins’ work. Everyone involved thus far was involved in the original projects, so that will help set the expectation for fans eagerly awaiting news. Unfortunately, that’s about all we know for the moment. But we’ll do our best to keep you updated!
