The Banana Splits Reboots With a Horror Twist

FLEEGLE SNORKY BINGO & DROOPER THE BANANA SPLITS ADVENTURE HOUR (1968)
Fleegle, Snorky, Bingo, and Drooper – The Banana Splits Adventure Hour (1968)

Hey, remember The Banna Splits? For me, I vaguely remember reruns on Cartoon Network as a child. Well, if you don’t, check this out for a quick refresher. Basically, the costumed animals hosted a variety hour type show in the late 1960s-early ’70s so, of course, it is going to be rebooted as a horror television show on the SyFy channel!

The Horror

I mean, yeah, they look pretty creepy, but I am not sure I would go full-on horror with the Banana Splits. I guess there could be worse ideas also? Who knows; it may just work. Deadline has the full synopsis of the show:

The original movie will premiere this year from Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros Television Group’s digital studio, via a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release that will be followed by the television debut on Syfy. The official synopsis: “In the upcoming horror thriller, a boy named Harley and his family (brother Austin, mother Beth, and father Mitch) attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?”

Hanna-Barbera has a lot of classic properties to choose from. They are also letting people do whatever with them. For proof, just check out any of DC’s recent comics featuring them. If you have read any of those, they can get very strange and far out there, so I guess horror Banana Splits isn’t that big of a stretch. Just odd they are going the television route with it.

Conclusion

It is hard to say exactly how or what this is going to exactly look like right now. But, like, it is happening the actors and directors are all already on board. I wonder if they are going to keep the title The Banana Splits for the show or maybe title it something different? It doesn’t exactly scream horror, but maybe the show does haunt some peoples dreams. Are you afraid of The Banana Splits? Do you have a good title for the show? Let us know in the comments.
