DC’s Deal With Spotify Expanded; Great News for Us!
Recently, DC Comics (through Warner Bros) had formed a deal with Spotify to create new audio content in the form of podcasts. Now we officially know that they’ve begun to expand on that deal, and that’s great news for the fans.
In the era of podcasts, it really shouldn’t be all that surprising to hear that the comic book industry is jumping on board. Even less surprising is the idea that DC would take advantage of a newer platform to reach a new audience.
The podcasts will be in a scripted format and promise to showcase many fan-favorite superheroes. And villains. So what has the new series added to the roster? Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Joker. Full series titles to follow.
Though it sounds like those three won’t be the only characters included. We also have cameos from Lois Lane, Catwoman, Katana, The Riddler, Batgirl, and Harley Quinn have already been teased as well.
Jim Lee, the chief creative officer of DC, was the one to make the official announcement. That brings the known count of podcasts up to four. As for the originally promised podcast? Batman! More accurately, Batman Unburied. Written by David S. Goyer, and there’s going to be a psychological twist for this series. Which will certainly be enough to pull fans in. Fingers crossed that we won’t be waiting much longer! The expected release is sometime this year.
Batman Unburied is being produced by Goyer’s Phantom Four company, in association with Warner Bros’ Blue Ribbon Content. It feels safe to assume that if there is a positive reception towards the podcast (along with the other three), that we will be seeing even more of what it’s like in the future. Until then, be sure to tune in!
