It’s Official: The Casting Has Begun for the Live-Action Adaptation of Powerpuff Girls
In case you missed the news: Powerpuff Girls is getting a live-action adaptation. Even more, Deadline just reported that the Powerpuff Girls themselves have officially been cast.
When you hear talk about The Powerpuff Girls, it probably isn’t a stretch to assume that their theme song immediately pops into your head. It was a series that defined a generation, and in general, was simply a blast to watch.
So really, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise to know that CW is intending to make a live-action version of that hit series. Though we can only imagine that everything is going to look quite a bit different.
News The Powerpuff Girls is getting a new series, written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier. It’s directed by Maggie Kiley and is going to lean heavily on the source material. IE: The original Powerpuff Girls series, created by Craig McCracken.
Don’t worry though – the series is going to make a few major changes. Outside of the live-action element, which in itself is a huge change. The series is going to be jumping forward a bit in time, presenting us with the three sisters in their twenties.
How do you think they feel now, after all those years of fighting crime? Do they feel good about the time spent, or are they bitter about it? According to the synopsis out there, these three are apparently not thrilled about having lost their childhoods so early on. Unfortunately, that won’t be enough to stop the world from needing them.
Okay, time to get to the part we’ve all been waiting for. The casting news! Let’s start with the actress that will play Blossom Utonium. She’s going to be played by Chloe Bennet – best known for her role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Her version of Blossom is plagued by anxiety, though she still wants to be a leader.
Next up is Bubbles. Arguably the happiest character of the original series, now she’s just as chipper as ever – on the outside. However, all of that hides a hidden depth and intelligence. She’s going to be played by Dove Cameron (Descendants).
Last, but certainly not least, there’s Buttercup. She was always the tough one, the one ready for a fight. Ever since she retired, Buttercup has been doing her best to lay low and keep her identity as a Powerpuff Girl a secret. Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill) will be stepping into the role.
What do you think of the casting decisions? Are you looking forward to seeing how the live-action series turns out?
