Mandalorian Second Trailer Premieres Online
The Mandalorian is the breakout hit of the Disney+ app. The Star Wars TV spinoff grabbed our attention, launched us into the immediately post-Return of the Jedi era and, most important, had a breakout star that was a return to old-school effects magic. Now, the titular bounty hunter and “Baby Yoda” are returning for a second round of adventures. The second season of the series will premiere October 30th on the streaming service. Pedro Pascal returns under the helmet of “Mando”. Carl Weathers and Gina Carano are returning as well, as is Giancarlo Esposito as the devious Moff Gideon.
In conjunction with the announced return date, we now have a trailer:
Hyperspace to Adventure
The trailer gives hints of the adventures and vistas to come. It also appears they’re once again using more practical effects than CGI to give it more of that older Star Wars appeal. It also shows Mando dealing more with the now-nascent Galactic Republic as his ship dogfights with two X-Wings. The action we expect is back, complete with the hint of a massive cantina brawl. New planets will be explored, such as an ice world and an ocean world. However, we have yet to see two announced characters. Fan-favorite Jedi Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) and legendary Bounty Hunter Boba Fett (Temura Morrison) appear nowhere in the trailer. Also not seen is Katee Sackhoff, who will be playing Bo-Katan Kryze, the character she voiced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Trouble Ahead for The Mandalorian?
However, this trailer arrives amid controversy. Both Dawson and Carano have come under fire for transphobic comments and posts on social media. Carano doubled down on this in recent weeks, mocking posts about how people want to be addressed by specific pronouns. Carano posted several conspiracy theories about the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic as well. Whether or not this will majorly affect viewership, or even future appearances, is yet to be seen.
The Mandalorian returns on Disney Plus on Friday, October 30th.
