The Orville Releases Season 2 Trailer at SDCC
The Fox science fiction comedy The Orville has released its first season two trailer and announced its premiere date. Check out the trailer below!
The Orville was created by and stars Seth MacFarlane, who claims that season 2 of the show is more like what he intended. According to him, the show will have a more confident footing and a better balance of sci-fi and comedy. He also believes that the show should not have been marketed as a comedy last season. MacFarlane has expressed some other dissatisfactions with the network, but it seems unlikely that they will affect the show’s production.
MacFarlane and the Fox Network
Seth MacFarlane recently made some well-received comments about Fox News’ rhetoric. In those comments, he said that he was ashamed to work on a network related to the Fox News section. MacFarlane was praised for the comments in some circles, and condemned in others. But there’s evidence indicating that his words don’t mean very much at all.
First, MacFarlane has worked for Fox in some capacity for nearly 30 years, almost as long as Fox News has existed. Fox News’ rhetoric has reached similar depths in that span, and he has not spoken up before. Additionally, 20th Century Fox is being sold to Disney. This means that MacFarlane may soon have significantly fewer connections to Fox News. In the deal, the Fox corporation will maintain control of the Fox and Fox News channels, but not the production company. Since The Orville is produced by 20th Century Fox, the only connection MacFarlane will have to the Fox corporation is that his show happens to air on the channel. Worst comes to worst, ABC may have to do a Brooklyn 99-style save of The Orville, but that doesn’t seem likely right now.
The Orville also stars Adrienne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, and Peter Macon.
The Orville will return to televisions on 30 December 2018, whether or not Disney has successfully bought 20th Century Fox by then.
