Nintendo released a Pokémon Presents livestream via YouTube on June 17, 2020. This livestream was a 10-minute presentation with tons of updates for fans. This included the long-awaited return of a beloved Nintendo 64 game! Let’s take a look at what was announced…
Pokémon Smile is a mobile game that motivates children to brush their teeth. The game utilizes your mobile device’s camera to play. In order to rescue Pokémon that have been captured by cavity-causing bacteria, children will need to brush their teeth! There are over 100 types of Pokémon to rescue within the game, so kids will need to keep up with the game and their brushing in order to finish their Pokédex.
Not only will they complete their Pokédexes, but if they stay on top of their brushing, kids will also earn Pokémon Caps that will appear on their heads in the game as they brush. They will be able to use the caps in order to decorate pictures of themselves, creating all sorts of fun images.
Children’s games like this have been very popular in Japan for years. It’s great to see them implement one of these games in the United States! Pokémon Smile is available today on iOS and Android!
Themed cafes have been popping up in Japan for years. Themes include series such as Sailor Moon, One Piece, Kamen Rider, Gundam, Hello Kitty, and of course Pokémon! This themed cafe is combined with a puzzle game to make this cute game for the Nintendo Switch. In Cafe Mix, you’ll need to complete puzzles and create delicious drinks and dishes to serve at your cafe.
In order to play, you need to link matching icons to clear them from the screen. However, each puzzle has its own objectives, so you will need to think carefully before deciding your move.
Other little details that are known include Pokémon joining your cafe staff! Eevee will be the first one that joins your team. As you play, the cafe will grow and even more of your favorite friends will want to visit.
Pokémon Cafe Mix is not yet available to download or purchase. No further information is currently available.
New Pokémon Snap
People have wanted to see this announcement and it finally came: New Pokémon Snap will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, inspired by the beloved Nintendo 64 game. The concept is the same: the player will explore different regions such as jungles, deserts, and more. As you do so, you’ll be able to photograph your favorite Pokémon as well as discover never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.
This is such a welcome reveal. Nostalgia is riding high as video games continue to advance and become more realistic with updated graphics. A game like this on a console with the capabilities of the Switch is an absolutely perfect combination.
No further information is available as of yet, including price and release date. It will be available on the Nintendo Switch in the (hopefully near) future.
GO Fest & Pokémon GO
Pokémon GO has gone through a lot of changes and updates since its release in 2016. This includes its annual Festival every summer. Pokémon GO Fest will be held on July 25th-26th. It will take place from 10 am to 8 pm local time. Information has been updated via the GO website.
The event will be completely digital and available to players all over the world. Victini was also teased as being the mythical Pokémon for the GO Fest!
Also announced today were Galarian Farfetch’d and Mega Evolutions. As of today, you’ll be able to find Galarian Farfetch’d spawn throughout your game.
Mega evolutions were introduced in Generation VI. Only a small number of Pokémon are able to mega evolve. No further details were provided with the tease of mega evolution within GO. One can assume the Pokémon that could mega evolve in the prior games will be able to in GO. They did state that they are “working to deliver a new take on mega evolution that is enhanced by Pokémon GO’s unique gameplay”…we’ll see what that means!
Sword & Shield Expansion Pass
Today, the first Expansion Pass for Sword & Shield has been released for Nintendo Switch! The Isle of Armor adds more adventures for your already existing save data in Sword & Shield.
The Isle of Armor opens up new areas within the game not accessible before. These areas feature beaches, caves, bogs, forests, and sand dunes.
The story in this expansion centers around a dojo for battles. There, you will train under the master of that dojo to become even stronger, and obtain a new Pokémon, Kubfu.
You’ll now be able to encounter special max raid battles with the mythical Pokémon, Zeraora. If one million trainers are able to defeat Zeraora within the max raid battles, everyone will receive a shiny Zeraora as a gift. More information regarding this event is available via the website for Sword & Shield.
