San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing. The Walking Dead has been making its fair share of headlines already, even though its main Hall H panel has not even happened yet. The “Conversation with Robert Kirkman” panel was held on Thursday, revealing a few new details about the upcoming season of the TV series. And AMC released a teaser trailer ahead of the season 9 trailer that dropped at the annual Comic Con panel today.
Andrew Lincoln’s Departure
Back in May, fans were shaken by the announcement that Andrew Lincoln would be leaving the starring role of Rick Grimes after nearly 10 years. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding this news, from the reasons behind his decision, to how his departure will occur on the show.
The creative forces behind The Walking Dead hadn’t yet addressed Lincoln’s departure in an official capacity. That is, until Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead comics, was asked in a panel on Thursday evening:
“It’s looking that way. This is somebody that I’ve known for almost a decade, somebody that I love… he’s been sweating in Georgia away from his family for so long. [Lincoln] wants to do something special on the way out. We’ve got something amazing planned… anybody who loves Rick Grimes, loves the world of The Walking Dead, you’re gonna want to see what we do.”
There have not been any further confirmations about Lincoln’s departure. So the speculation on how it will occur, and if the character of Rick Grimes will die, will continue for now.
The Trailer for the Trailer
The new trailer for season 9 is definitely one of the most anticipated ones to release at the convention. There is so much hype that AMC has released a 25-second teaser for the trailer. You can watch below.
On Friday, July 20, at the annual Comic Con panel, the official trailer released. It is over 5 minutes in length, and can be seen here:
