Jane Foster is Picking Up the Thor Mantle

Fans have been anxiously following any and all news about the fourth installment in the Thor movie franchise. And lately, we’ve been getting a whole lot of news about it. Now more details have been revealed, and it looks like Jane Foster will be at the helm of it all, putting on the mantle of Thor.

Natalie Portman will reprise her role as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder

The movie has made a lot of headway as of late. Just the other week Marvel higher-ups confirmed that the movie would be once again directed by Taika Waititi—a huge relief to all fans. Now we know the title of the movie, Thor: Love and Thunder.

But that’s not all. While Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will both be coming back for the fourth installment, there’s a new and very interesting development. Jane Foster will once again appear on screen—and she’ll be wielding Mjolnir.

Natalie Portman will be back to portray Jane. Jane has been absent in the last few movies (if you include the Avengers movies). But this is more than just a comeback—this is Jane becoming a hero in her own right.

Mighty Thor

Jane Foster has been a hero for years within Marvel comics. She picked up Mjolnir when Thor became Unworthy. And she carried the mantle of Thor (with his blessing) even while it was quite literally killing her.

The movie will likely be forced to change many elements to Jane’s journey as Thor, but that’s not a bad thing. A lot of the obstacles she faces will be different. For one thing, the All-Father won’t be around to criticize the female Thor. We’re hoping that some of Jane’s antagonists will stay the same. Especially because their involvement was the earliest hints of the major Marvel event: War of the Realms. Is it possible that this will be the next big bad of the MCU?

Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to hit theaters on November 5th, 2021.
