The Tolkien Biopic, Appropriately Named Tolkien, Has Released Its First Trailer
The Tolkien biopic has released its first trailer, and things are looking good. A biopic is a biographical movie, and in this case, it’s about the much beloved J.R.R. Tolkien.
With so much love for J.R.R. Tolkien, it was really only a matter of time before somebody made a movie about his life. The synopsis describes the movie: “Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the ‘fellowship’ apart. All of those experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.”
The biopic has an amazing cast, which admittedly is the main reason why I had such high confidence in the movie, even before seeing the trailer.
Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Tolkien, while Lily Collins will play Edith Bratt, Tolkien’s wife. Other actors include Anthony Boyle, Colm Meaney, Craig Roberts, Derek Jacobi, Genevieve O’Reilly, James MacCallum, Pam Ferris, Patrick Gibson, and Tom Glynn-Carney.
Dome Karukoski is directing the film, while Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready, and Kris Thykier are producers. Everything is all based on the screenplay by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford. And yes, that is a lot of people involved with this project.
The trailer itself isn’t incredibly long—about 55 seconds in total—but it’s enough to give us a good idea of what to expect. It’s already clear that this is not going to be a dull biography. They’re going above and beyond with special effects, blending the world Tolkien lived in with the world Tolkien dreamed of.
The movie is set to release on May 10th, so we don’t have that much longer to wait.
