Children of Blood and Bone is Tomi Adeyemi’s debut novel, and yet it has already gotten a lot of ink. It’s a West African-inspired YA fantasy novel. That’s a specific genre, but it’s also not one that has received enough love in the media. Tomi Adeyemi has been garnering a lot of attention with her work.

The novel follows young Zelie Adebola as she strives to save her people and their magic. It’s a beautiful novel and has been getting a lot of positive reviews all over. If you haven’t read the novel yet, you might want to pick up a copy before the movie comes out. [Editor’s note: this book was part of our December 2018 #WotNReadingChallenge!]

The Movie

Fox 2000 wasted no time getting the movie rights for Children of Blood and Bone, as the book hasn’t even been out a year.

No one has made any casting announcements yet, but we do know some of the goings-on behind the scenes. Temple Hill is reportedly the production company undertaking the adaptation. They’re the company that gave us Maze Runner. Karen Rosenfelt and her Sunswept Entertainment Company will be producing alongside Temple Hill.

Rick Famuyiwa has already taken on the role as director for the movie. David Magee is on board to write the script adaptation. He’s the writer that gave us Life of Pi and Mary Poppins Returns, so the script is in safe hands.

Reactions

Tomi Adeyemi is understandably thrilled to be able to share this news with her fans.

Fellow authors shared her excitement as well!
