Top 5 Monsters That Should Be In The Kong/Godzilla “Monster-verse”

Kong: Skull Island Spoilers Ahead

Now that the spoiler warning is out of the way lets get to it. Throughout Kong: Skull Island we are introduced to the idea that the Earth is hollow and that there is a whole host of monsters that live under the Earth. It is not only that the monsters live under the Earth but also that some are “protectors” from the I guess we will call them “badder” monsters. Kong: Skull Island depicts this as Kong protecting the islanders from the “skull crawlers” this makes a great connection to the 2014 Godzilla movie when Godzilla is attacking the MUTO’s he was being a “protector”. Kong Skull Island has some great easter eggs throughout the movie connecting it to the 2014 Godzilla movie, the most obvious is the Government agency MONARCH, but there are some great small connections if you pay attention throughout the movie.

The final stinger after the credits is what ultimately sets up the Kong/Godzilla connected “monster-verse”. During the scene after the credits of Kong: Skull Island we are told that “Kong is not the only King” and shown cave drawings and other information of Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, then as the screen goes black we hear Godzilla’s roar setting up 2020 Godzilla vs Kong movie! After this teaser we can basically confirm the Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah are all going to show up in the subsequent movies, whether that be Godzilla 2 or Kong vs Godzilla in 2020 is to be determined so I am purposely going to leave those three off my list. These are some of the classic Godzilla Kaiju I want to show up in this new shared “monster-verse”

Robotic Godzillas

Top 5 Monsters That Should Be In The Kong/Godzilla "Monster-verse"

There is probably a .1 % chance that MechaGodzilla is going to make an appearance in the “monster-verse” maybe a little too serious to have humans build a robot Godzilla look alike but stranger things have happened. Now M.O.G.E.R.A. or some other type of human-built “monster fighter” that does not look like Godzilla does have a chance to make an appearance. If giant monsters are rampaging across Earth come on we have to build a giant monster to fight them, right? That is the exact plot from Pacific Rim so who knows we might get a cross over with that universe, who doesn’t want to see giant humanoid creatures fight monsters, that leads into or next honorable mention…

Jet Jaguar

Jet Jaguar from Godzilla vs Megalon

Hate to break it to all the Jet Jaguar fans but he is definitely not showing up in the Godzilla/Kong “monster-verse”, but how cool would that be! A sentient robot that can change sizes to fight giant monsters. He is basically a superhero and people love superhero movies and movie studios like money so it does kind of make sense, still don’t get your hopes up.

Minilla, from Son of Godzilla

Just kidding nobody wants to see Minilla ever again!

Time for the actual list so “hold on to your butts”

5.  Megaguirus

Top 5 Monsters That Should Be In The Kong/Godzilla "Monster-verse"
Megaguirus from Godzilla vs Megaguirus (2000)

Megaguirus was introduced later on in Godzilla lore in the film Godzilla vs Megaguirus. What a fantastic design this creature has, with its bleak red eyes, spiny exterior, and giant stinger tail it would be lovely to see what new twist and details animators could put into this creature. Megaguirus would also make a great “evil” foe for Godzilla/Kong. With its ability to fly, agility, and ability to absorb power, it would definitely help bring a powerful creature like Godzilla down to size!

4.  Biollante

Biollante from Godzilla vs Biollante (2014)

One of, if not my favorite Kaiju monster designs of all time and one of my favorite Godzilla movies Godzilla vs Biollante. Biollante is a cross between Godzilla’s cells, human DNA and a rose that turns into this horrifying creature. Biollante is a great design that needs to make an appearance in the “monster-verse”. I have no clue how they would make the whole monster/human/rose hybrid thing work, but they could just skip that part and use the creature. With its long tentacles and huge crocodile-like mouth, it would make a great addition to the films and really give a more horror vibe to the universe.

3. Gigan

Top 5 Monsters That Should Be In The Kong/Godzilla "Monster-verse"
Gigan from Godzilla vs Gigan (1972)

Anybody who calls themselves a Godzilla fan knows and loves Gigan. Come on a giant bird-like creature that shoots lasers out of its eye and has a giant buzz saw in its stomach, what is not to love? I don’t know how they can fit a design like Gigan into this universe and they are definitely going to have to cut out his alien origin, but they simply must find a way. Besides King Ghidorah, Gigan is Godzilla’s most recognizable foe, appearing in three films. They could simplify his design some, this would be another creature I would love to see what animators and creators could do to tweak his design while still paying homage to the classic look.

2. Megalon

Megalon from Godzilla vs Megalon (1973)

Megalon like Megagirus has a great insect design that with a few tweaks can look great in this new universe. With his giant horned head and rotating “drill” hands, it makes for a great visual design, I will not fault the studio if they leave out that he can shoot lightning from his horn (how does that even work?). With the whole “hollow Earth” theory that is supposed to be where the monsters are hiding  Megalon would make a fantastic addition to being able to tunnel anywhere under the earth to make his appearance.

1. Anguirus

Top 5 Monsters That Should Be In The Kong/Godzilla "Monster-verse"
Anguirus first appeared in Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

Godzilla does not make many friends and that is why he has a BFF like Anguirus to help him out. Godzilla’s most trusted ally and sometimes enemy has appeared in seven films since making his first appearance in 1955’s Godzilla Raids Again.  Anguirus has no energy or projectile weapons that would have to be eliminated just a little update on the design and he is ready to be reintroduced and help Godzilla fight. With his spiked tail and carapace, Anguirus would be a sight for sore eyes to see battle these other Kaiju on the big screen!

These are the Top 5 classic Godzilla Monsters we want to see in the Kong/Godzilla “monster-verse”. Godzilla has tons of classic foes, comment below and let us now which Kaiju you want to show up in this universe?
