Netflix’s remake of Irwin Allen’s 1965 cult classic Lost in Space gets a new member. Deadline reports that Parker Posey has joined the cast of Lost in Space. The series, filmed by 20TH Century Fox, originally aired in CBS from 1965 to 1968 with 83 episodes. It was written and produced by Irwin Allen.
Lost in Space of Netflix
Lost in Space is focused on the Robinson family and how they will “be forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, the Robinsons find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and their own personal demons.” It’s a concept that was interesting back when it first aired and now with all the advancements and problems in the world it’s probably going to be just as entertaining if not more than the original run. Netflix has yet to come out with a series that is badly received by the general public and if anything it will be an interesting show to binge-watch.
Interestingly, Parker Posey was cast in the role of Dr. Smith. For those that don’t know, Dr. Smith was originally Dr. Zachary Smith and was portrayed by Jonathan Harris. And yes that means that Netflix has genderflipped one of the original series’ main roles. This will either enrage or delight the fans of the original series but it definitely adds another layer to the remake. After all sometimes changing the gender of a character leads to a very different dynamic for the characters than what we saw or read in the original work, just look at CBS’ Elementary.
Parker Posey was recently in Christopher Guest and Netflix’s collaboration, Mascot, but some might remember her as Kitty Kowalski from 2006’s Superman Returns. Posey is repped by Gersh, and Authentic Talent and Literary Management. Lost in Space will premiere on Netflix on 2018.
