Review – The Walking Dead – S07E12: Say Yes

Last week on The Walking Dead, it was a Sanctuary-centric episode featuring Eugene, Negan, and Dwight. We had nothing of our core Alexandria group and main characters. This week, we follow the misadventures of Rick and Michonne out on a supply run, and Rosita’s desperate attempt to find weapons to exert her revenge upon Negan.

The Good

This was a great episode for the Richonne shippers. As they make their way through a myriad of situations, we can see the couple become closer and their bonds grow stronger.

I also love a good walker kill. The more disgusting the better. Rosita had a great walker kill with a rather moist and juicy walker. Rick had a nice kill with the windshield walker, who basically disintegrated in his hands as he was trying to remove him.

The Bad

The whole storyline about Rick “owing” Michonne a deer was senseless. First, the CGI deer was pretty awful visually. Then, Rick putting himself into imminent danger to try to get the shot was downright stupid. But the worst was the fake out Rick death. We all know Rick is safe at this point. That would be a huge character death in the series that would (and should) deserve a better storyline than that. However, there may have been a moment where Michonne’s safety was in question. What if she didn’t recover from reeling over Rick’s potential death in time to get herself out of a dangerous situation? What if she decided that his death was too unbearable and sacrificed herself in a suicide by zombies? But, thankfully, Rick popped out of his hiding spot just in the nick of time, tossing her katana to her to finish killing the last of the herd. It was a rather silly scene that could probably been done without.

The Ugly

Oh, Rosita. From her actions, her sour attitude, and her secret mission with Sasha at the end of the episode, she is slowly becoming the most hated character on the show. Her actions this season have caused avoidable deaths and Eugene’s kidnapping. Will this new mission end in success, or will she get killed, or eventually kill others in the process?

The Really Really Awesome

After seeing the previews for next week’s episode, “Bury Me Here”, I have to say that I am highly anticipating the return of Carol. She looks like she is down to business, returning to the Carol we know and love, and back to her ways of being the most bad ass character on the show. She will confront Morgan and finally learn the truth about what happened at the hands of Negan. How will she react? What will she do? I think it’s going to be a pretty great episode. I can’t wait!
