Season 6 of The Walking Dead ended with Negan swinging his trusty bat Lucille at one of our main protagonists, ending in a cliffhanger that will carry over to season 7. Recently, articles discussing what is in store for viewers, especially concerning Negan’s actions have populated the Internet. On Friday, Variety stated that Negan’s character will be a game changer for the show story-line going forward. Varsity noted that Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, while at a the Edinburgh International TV Festival, discussed the finale and stated that the Season 7 premiere would continue the story from where things left off. Michael Cudlitz, who joined the show in season 4, stated that it is a tough feeling for the actors knowing that one of them would be gone soon, and not know who. Hurd also reminded the audience that the show dynamic is not the presence of the zombies, but the human interaction and character development. Negan’s actions in the finale have set the course for some serious character development.
Death And Character Development
Killing characters in any series is challenging for everyone involved. For The Walking Dead, as of the finale the team was still was not aware of which of them would be leaving the show, so it could be nerve-racking for them. Jeffery Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, did not even know that the finale would end that way, so it was just as surprising for him as it was for viewers. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his experiences in the final episodes on the Walking Dead, Negan said:
“Yeah, it surprised me how upset people were. I think it kind of shocked all of us, frankly, that people were so upset . . . But I liked it. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly understand the audience being pissed for a day or two, but to dwell on it as much as they have, I think it’s good for one. “
