Twitch Star to Develop Series with Walking Dead Creator
Twitch superstar Dr DisRespect, aka Guy Beahm, is making a comeback. He is the first streamer on the platform to strike a deal for a narrative TV series. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Beahm stated that it’s still in development, but the plan is for it to be animated. To bring it to life, Beahm has partnered with Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment to bring the show to life. It would focus on the backstory of his online persona and how “the doctor became the doctor.”
Show Already Marred by Controversy?
However, Beahm is not without some controversy that would be a stumbling block. He took months off from his streams after openly admitting to having an affair. He was also recently suspended for filming in a public bathroom. There’s also a question of where this show would land. If it doesn’t land on a network, The Verge theorizes that it would likely be picked up by Amazon, which owns Twitch. In the interview, Beahm said “The one thing I try to focus on is making sure everything stays consistent. You don’t want to lose the authenticity of the character.”
Is This a Show We Need?
In this age where everyone can be a star, it seems to be a race to see who can be bigger. YouTubers like Markplier and PewDiePie have their successful shows on YouTube. Others have used other platforms to catapult themselves into stardom. But this is something entirely new, especially for those who are game streamers. However, given the controversy involved, is this a show that will be a hit? He obviously has a built-in fanbase, but will it resonate with general audiences? As this show is still in development, it might not even come on the air.
