Venom Is A Whole New World
The crew behind the upcoming Sony Pictures Venom movie took to the stage Friday at San Diego Comic-Con to give some details about the upcoming film. As most people know by now, Tom Holland, AKA Spider-Man, will not be making an appearance. The Venom movie will not be a part of the MCU. Sony will be attempting to make its own interconnected movie universe. It will have a little darker, more violent tone to it as well.
There Will Be Blood
Some clips were shown to the fans that let them know Venom is the “lethal protector.” It seems Tom Hardy’s symbiote alter ego will develop a taste for human flesh and the movie will not hold back from the character’s more violent tendencies. There are even some rumors that Venom may have an R rating upon its October 5th release. This would be a big change for Sony and may be an attempt to piggyback on the success of Deadpool.
Spider-verse Without Spider-Man
As noted previously, Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in Venom, but that is not stopping Sony. They will introduce some other symbiote/Spider-Man related characters in Venom. They are also releasing Morbius, the Living Vampire movie and a Silver Sable/Black Cat movie, all without Spider-Man. How Sony is going to do this without Spider-Man is anyone’s guess. Will Venom have a spider symbol on his chest? Will he make webs? Does he still have a hatred for Spider-Man? Sony’s Spider-verse without Spider-Man is an odd choice, but when Avengers: Infinity War makes 2 billion dollars you might as well give it a shot. Their first chance will be with Venom on October 5th and Tom Hardy, as noted in Variety, is not completely shying away from standing toe to toe with the Wall Crawler someday!
