About Verônica Bochi Cosplay
Hi, my name is Verônica Bochi, I’m 25 years old and I’m from Brazil! I’ve been working with tourism and marketing by 8 years and Cosplay is my hobbie. I love going to the beach and stay outside. Reading and playing video-games are things that I do when I’m not working on my cosplays, my favorite food is noodles. And if I could choose a super power or a skill it would be telekinesis.
How did you first get into cosplay?
I got into cosplay by accident when I made a costume to go to Carnival, in Brazil, I went as Harley Quinn and I got so into it to make it perfect and after that, I never stopped.
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
Just for fun. I do all the clothes myself, so it became my hobby.
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I do them all by myself and I prefer using recyclable material.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
Depends. My Wonder Woman cosplay I had to use some material that I never used before, so it took me 3 months until I nailed it.
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
That’s a hard question. I identify myself better with Harley Quinn, I like wearing her clothes. But Wonder Woman was a really hard work and the result was awesome I like it as much.
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
Every convention that I got are memorable when people ask for pictures and say how good my work is.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I have never been in a group, but I think it’s pretty cool, I was invited for a Game of Thrones group with my Daenerys cosplay, but they lived far away from my city, and here Cosplay isn’t very popular.
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
I’m doing Ciri from The Witcher 3, I started this game last year and I want to finish it by March.
What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
I never had any issues, but I know there is a lot of prejudice and harassment, especially with women. I have friends that went through a lot of bad experiences being harassments. I also think that people need their cosplays without caring about negative opinions, about their bodies, or about their character’s choices, etc.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
I’ve done all kind of characters, from clowns to strong warriors, so I don’t have a preference, I usually go with their story, if it’s calling my attention and the outfit is cool, I do it!
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
I try to enjoy all parts, but honestly going out for shopping supplies is the part that I less enjoy or when I do something wrong and I have to redo it. And going to conventions and having photo shoots is when I enjoy the most and have fun.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
I try to use recycled material in everything, but mostly EVA, cloth and paper and lots of glue lmao.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Social media, keep it active with good pictures, I don’t know how people can be 24/7 in their cosplays.
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
To not to judge anyone, people have different opinions so I learned how to accept and listen to all opinions.
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Always do your best and do your cosplay for yourself. Enjoy it and don’t try to please others.
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
I think it has grown a lot. The nerd world has grown a lot, so it led more people to do cosplay as a hobby.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
I never thought about it but for sure something with a really big armor and full of crazy details.
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
No, I just go with the flow. If I don’t have the budget anymore I hold a little haha
What does cosplay mean to you?
It’s art, I’m always proud of doing it. I see myself as an artist.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
Maybe if I just can’t. Something happens to me that forces me to stop.
