Was Gal Gadot Underpaid For Wonder Woman?

Gadot Stiffed Out Of Major Payday?

Reports and rumors are swirling around Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and her paycheck for the film. According to reports via Deadline, Gadot was paid $300,000 for being in Wonder Woman, with some reports having Warner Brothers doubling it before the cameras rolled. Gadot is expected to make even more money due to the film’s success. The rumors however indicate that she was underpaid, especially in comparison to her male co-stars in Batman V Superman. While some people claim Henry Cavill was paid up to $14 million dollars for 2013’s Man of Steel, Deadline notes that Cavill earned under $1 million for his role.

A Case Of Gender Discrimination?

We unfortunately live in a world where there is a pay gap between men and women in various jobs. It seems to be worse in Hollywood, where several starring actresses have made less than their male co-stars. Is Gadot a victim of this trend? Sources tell Deadline “No.” Many of the salaries of stars come from name recognition or star power. Henry Cavill’s price for Man of Steel was based on his paychecks from The Tudors, the costume drama where he came to fame. Gadot’s salary was based on what she was paid for her role in The Fast And The Furious franchise.

Man of Steel Gal GadotBigger name stars typically recieve a larger paycheck. Deadline reminds us that if sources are correct, Robert Downey Jr. made as much as $5 million a day for a three day shoot on Spider-Man Homecoming. Will Smith came onto Suicide Squad for a cool $13 million salary. Ben Affleck was paid more than either co-star for Batman V Superman.

Given the major success of Wonder Woman, Gadot is the toast of Hollywood. It is possible her agents are already renegotiating her salary for the sequel and any future Justice League movies. If you think Gadot is currently underpaid, she now has the clout to get a much bigger paycheck in the future.

Wonder Woman is currently in theaters.
