So, in big comic news, Marvel have decided to do (for all intents and purposes) a reboot of most of their titles; ranging from dropping some, to re-numbering others, and even rebooting various characters. The first step into this foray is with the ‘Marvel Now! Point One’ title which has recently had more details released about its creative team, which include the talents of Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Jeph Loeb, Nick Spencer, Kieron Gillen, Dennis Hopeless on the writing desk, and on the art side, we have the gifted skills of Michael Allred, Ed McGuinness, Steve McNiven, Jamie McKelvie, Salvador Larroca, Luke Ross, with cover art by Adi Granov.
To date, there have been five teaser images, all with art by Granov released. Each teaser featurs a Samuel L Jackson-styled Nick Fury casting five cards to the reader, and teaser image number two features an image of Ant-Man, who is undoubtedly going to be a big part in the new Marvel Now future, what with news of Edgar Wright’s film adaptation getting the green-light in screen tests.
Marvel are well known for releasing ‘point one’ issues as jumping boards for new readers to join, and are often very successful in gaining new readers, as they cram dozens of story-lines into one issue, a great example being Journey Into Mystery 626.1, written by Rob Rodi and with art by Pasqual Ferry, which also happens to be a personal favourite!
So what do you think to this creative team? Will it do justice to the gargantuan shake-up being done by Marvel? What are you opinions on this teaser image? And are we going to see a fusing of the comics universe and the film universe after the success of Marvel films this summer? Thoughts in the comment section below!
