Villians Get the Spotlight in X-Men Black
Not all the announcements at San-Diego Comic-Con were about television and movies. Marvel took the opportunity to announce a slew of new comics. Today they released information about a new X-Men series titled X-Men Black. This series will feature one-shot stories featuring X-Men villains by different creative teams.
Being Bad Is Good
X-Men Black has five issues announced. Chris Claremont, a name X-Men fans should be very familiar with, will write the issue featuring Magneto, with art by Dalibor Talajic. Mojo gets Scott Auckerman writing and Nick Bradshaw on art. The White Queen Emma Frost will have a story by Leah Williams and art by Chris Bachalo. The always mysterious Mystique shapeshifts with a story by Seanan McGuire and art by Marco Failla. Not to be forgotten, The Unstoppable Juggernaut, written by Robbie Thompson and art by Shawn Crystal will be featured in X-Men Black.
That’s Not All, Folks
Not only will X-Men Black feature five different villains’ stories by five different creative teams; there is one more surprise. Each of the five issues of X-Men Black will have a chapter of a backup story written by Lonnie Nadler, with art by Zac Thompson, featuring the notorious X-Men villain Apocalypse! Many of these villains have been featured in current X-Men titles. It will be interesting to see what these creative teams do with them.
Mutant and Proud
Marvel is slowly but surely putting mutants back into the forefront of the Marvel Universe. With the announcement of X-Men Black and several other series featuring Marvel’s merry mutants, fans should be quite excited! Plus, with Disney acquiring the X-Men movie rights, we should be seeing much more of our mutant brethren. What do you think about X-Men Black? Which creative team are you most excited for?
