Just days after Disney released Marvel’s Captain America: Winter Soldier trailer, FOX released Marvel’s X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer. If these movies are at all similar to their respective predecessor’s then I am much more excited to see X-Men: DOFP.
This movie serves as a sequel to both 2011’s X-Men: First Class and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, as well as a follow up to last summer’s The Wolverine. This is possible because the movie will be taking place in both the future, after The Last Stand, and the past, after First Class. Due to this we will be getting to see two different Professor Xaviers and Magnetos, older and younger versions, which looks to be a very interesting concept from the trailer.
In the future, Professor X and Magneto ask Wolverine to travel back to the 70’s to get their past selves to realize what kind of future their choices are making. This almost feels like it was loosely based on the storyline from the short-lived animated series, Wolverine and the X-Men, which was very entertaining.
In the trailer we get glimpses of returning heroes from The Last Stand, such as older Professor X and Magneto, Storm, Iceman, Rogue and Kitty Pryde. We also see returning heroes from First Class like Mystique, Beast, younger Professor X and Magneto. We even saw some new characters like Bishop, Warpath and Blink.
I think that this is a great and intriguing way to connect the two timelines, especially for those fans who may not have been around or were too young to enjoy the original trilogy. Having Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine, again, is definitely a smart move in my opinion. He is the only character from the original trilogy to go out on his own and we have more of an understanding of his character; fans young and old all know who he is and he is obviously extremely popular among them, the perfect guy to send back in time.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release on May 23, 2014.
